Kiran Bedi suggests 6Ps plan to curb crimes against women - IBN Live

Former IPS officer and India Against Corruption member Kiran Bedi presented her 6Ps plan - Crime Prevention Plan within police, people (society), prosecution, politician, prison and press (news media and film industry) - on CNN-IBN.

Bedi said she is sure that if this plan of hers is implemented, police administration can be improved and crime rate can be brought down.

Here is the transcript:

Bhupendra Chaubey: Dr Bedi has come to our studio and she has worked out an agenda which she believes can be worked out. She has called it the 6Ps principle, why don't you tell us what should be done in these times, which can alter drastically the policing mechanism.

Kiran Bedi: This is called the 6Ps, 6Ps means crime prevention plan within police, within people because community has a very major role to play. So the people, the police, the prosecution; then comes the role of the politician, the prisons and the media, which is the press and press also includes the films, and then comes the jail. So it is the 6Ps and a J. So each one of them has a plan because you need a community plan. You can't have sons of mothers, who have no control over their boys. So you need social, primary education at the family level.

Bhupendra Chaubey: But do the police ever bother to think in terms of social changes, or providing these social changes, or values that you are talking about.

Kiran Bedi: Bhupendra, many good police officers have done community policing, who would go to schools and colleges. They would go to families; they are called community police officers, which is what we did in Delhi Police. We turned a police officer into a community police officer. So we turned them into community police officers of their respective beats. Now, when they went to their respective beats this is what they did... it was crime prevention, it was visible policing, it was fear of getting caught. Then it was watch and warning past criminals, we went to old criminals. You see, when a beat officer goes, he is walking his beat, he is building relationships. He is also preventing crimes because he is collecting intelligence. He is also visiting past criminals and doing rehabilitation.

Bhupendra Chaubey: Let me put it to you this way, would you say that a person who is a beat constable of a particular area, say if someone is looking after Mayur Vihar, the beat constable of that area should be a person who is familiar with each and every family?

Kiran Bedi: This is what we did. I wish you get 16 beat officers who have worked with us during Mr Marwah. Call them, they knew there people by heart. Because they were never pulled out of the beat, no matter what happened, and I have worked during Punjab terrorism, I have worked during Mizoram insurgency, and even then the beat system never broke.

Bhupendra Chaubey: I know for sure that when you were looking after traffic that is when you earned you nick name 'crane Bedi', because no matter who the person was he couldn't escape from your sharp eyes. But the other point, I find it interesting, which you have raised in your book 'I Dare', which is that you have tried to present an alternate model in a sense of what should be the relationship between the person at the top in police with the people. Should the Police Commissioner be someone who should be completely alienated, he is just a hierarchical boss, or should the Police Commissioner be someone around whom the entire police force should end up working? How have you drawn distinctions between these two models?

Kiran Bedi: It is an authoritarian model which is happening today. The other is transformative which transforms the system, which is a consultative, collaborative system. The first one you referred is isolated model that is what happened. There is a breakdown of community-police relationship. Ours was collaborative, community outreach system. People now don't recognise who the Police Commissioner is. Do you know every 9.00 am I was in the police station as a district DCP? I want to know how many district DCPs are in the police stations everyday at 9.00 am, to work with the beat officers. I'm saying some may do it, I salute them, but the point is Delhi as a city, or any city needs everybody, needs every district DPC.

Bhupendra Chaubey: But let me break it down, again to the first point of contact. Even before you go to a police station, in Delhi you have PCR vans, you know police men on motorcycles. What happens if a woman has been harassed, a simple case, a woman has been eve-teased, and the woman goes to that person who is on that motorcycle, not in a PCR police van. What is the ideal way for the policeman to react to the situation?

Kiran Bedi: First of all there has to a trust in the relationship. They got to be working together in peace time only then will the woman come.

Bhupendra Chaubey: So there is a possibility that the woman may not even go there because there is trust deficit.

Kiran Bedi: She won't go because the relationship was not there during the peace time. She will come to you only in crisis. And then she would also be afraid because there is no peace time dialogue. You need to work without crime happening, so when crime happens that person knows who to come to.

Nobel scientist Rita Levi-Montalcini dies in Rome

ROME (AP) ? Rita Levi-Montalcini, a biologist who conducted underground research in defiance of Fascist persecution and went on to win a Nobel Prize for helping unlock the mysteries of the cell, died at her home in Rome on Sunday. She was 103 and had worked well into her final years.

Rome Mayor Gianni Alemanno, announcing her death in a statement, called it a great loss "for all of humanity." He praised her as someone who represented "civic conscience, culture and the spirit of research of our time."

Italy's so-called "Lady of the Cells," a Jew who lived through anti-Semitic discrimination and the Nazi invasion, became one of her country's leading scientists and shared the Nobel medicine prize in 1986 with American biochemist Stanley Cohen for their groundbreaking research carried out in the United States. Her research increased the understanding of many conditions, including tumors, developmental malformations, and senile dementia.

Italy honored Levi-Montalcini in 2001 by making her a senator-for-life.

A petite woman with upswept white hair, she kept an intensive work schedule well into old age. "At 100, I have a mind that is superior ? thanks to experience ? than when I was 20," she said in 2009.

"A beacon of life is extinguished" with her death, said a niece, Piera Levi-Montalcini, who is a city councilwoman in Turin. She told the Turin daily newspaper La Stampa that her aunt passed away peacefully "as if sleeping" after lunch and that the scientist had kept up her research studies several hours a day "right up until the end."

Levi-Montalcini was born April 22, 1909, to a Jewish family in the northern city of Turin. At age 20 she overcame her father's objections that women should not study and obtained a degree in medicine and surgery from Turin University in 1936.

She studied under top anatomist Giuseppe Levi, whom she often credited for her own success and for that of two fellow students and close friends, Salvador Luria and Renato Dulbecco, who also became separate Nobel Prize winners. Levi and Levi-Montalcini were not related.

After graduating, Levi-Montalcini began working as a research assistant in neurobiology but lost her job in 1938 when Italy's Fascist regime passed laws barring Jews from universities and major professions.

Her family decided to stay in Italy and, as World War II neared, Levi-Montalcini created a makeshift lab in her bedroom where she began studying the development of chicken embryos, which would later lead to her major discovery of mechanisms that regulate growth of cells and organs.

With eggs becoming a rarity due to the war, the young scientist biked around the countryside to buy them from farmers. She was soon joined in her secret research by Levi, her university mentor, who was also Jewish and who became her assistant.

"She worked in primitive conditions," Italian astrophysicist Margherita Hack told Sky TG24 TV in a tribute to her fellow scientist. "She is really someone to be admired."

Italy's premier, Mario Monti, paid tribute to Levi-Montalcini's "charismatic and tenacious" character and for her lifelong battle to "defend the battles in which she believed."

Only a few months ago, she helped sponsor an appeal to the government for more attention of fund-strapped young scientists in Italy.

Vatican spokesman the Rev. Federico Lombardi praised Levi-Montalcini's civil and moral efforts, saying she was an "inspiring" example for Italy and the world, the ANSA news agency said.

An Italian scientist, who worked for some 40 years with Levi-Montalcini, including in the United States, said the work the Nobel laureate did on nerve growth factor was continuing. The protein assists portions of the central nervous system that have been damaged by disease or injury.

"Over the years, this field of investigation has become ever more important in the world of neuroscience," Pietro Calissano was quoted by ANSA as saying. Calissano began studying under Levi-Montalcini in 1965 and recalled her ability to relate to students on a very human level, with none of the elite airs that often characterize Italian professors.

"I remember we were in a closet with cell cultures when she offered me a fellowship," Calissano said. He added that research building on Levi-Montalcini's pioneering achievements continues. "We are working on a possible application in the treatment of Alzheimer's," he added.

The 1943 German invasion of Italy forced the Levi-Montalcini family to flee to Florence and live underground. After the Allies liberated the city, she worked as a doctor at a center for refugees.

In 1947 Levi-Montalcini was invited to the United States, where she remained for more than 20 years, which she called "the happiest and most productive" of her life. She held dual Italian-U.S. citizenship.

During her research at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, she discovered nerve growth factor, the first substance known to regulate the growth of cells. She showed that when tumors from mice were transplanted to chicken embryos they induced rapid growth of the embryonic nervous system. She concluded that the tumor released a nerve growth-promoting factor that affected certain types of cells.

The research increased the understanding of many conditions, including tumors, developmental malformations, and senile dementia. It also led to the discovery by Stanley Cohen of another substance, epidermal growth factor, which stimulates the proliferation of epithelial cells. The two shared the Nobel Prize for medicine in 1986.

Levi-Montalcini returned to Italy to become the director of the laboratory of cell biology of the National Council of Scientific Research in Rome in 1969.

After retiring in the late 1970s, she continued to work as a guest professor and wrote several books to popularize science. She created the Levi-Montalcini Foundation to grant scholarships and promote educational programs worldwide, particularly for women in Africa.

In 2001 Levi-Montalcini was made a senator for life, one of the country's highest honors.

She then became active in Parliament, especially between 2006 and 2008, when she and other life senators would cast their votes to back the thin majority of center-left Premier Romano Prodi.

Levi-Montalcini had no children and never married, fearing such ties would undercut her independence.

"I never had any hesitation or regrets in this sense," she said in a 2006 interview. "My life has been enriched by excellent human relations, work and interests. I have never felt lonely."

Italian mathematician Piergiorgio Odifreddi said he was always struck by the contrast of this "petite, frail woman and the power of her mind." He recalled comments that Levi-Montalcini made when she turned 100. She mentioned that she would sleep no more than two or three hours a night because "I have no time to lose," Odifreddi told Sky TG24.

There was no immediate announcement of funeral or memorial services.

Rick Elice Writes About Thomas Schumacher and Matthew White's Surprise Thanksgiving Wedding

Rick-Elice-Writes-About-Surprise-Thanksgiving-Wedding-20010101

Peter and the Starcatcher's Rick Elice just posted a heartfelt Huffington Post blog about his experience in the Berkshires this November 24th, when he witnessed the wedding of his friends, longtime partners producer Thomas Schumacher and director and actor Matthew White. An excerpt follows.

"Christmas in the Berkshires is like waking up in a Currier & Ives sampler accompanied by that Leroy Anderson song. Since the completion of Thomas Schumacher and Matthew White's place in the country, a gorgeous pile atop a hill in Hillsdale they've christened Otium, a small group of us have turned up each Christmas Eve and Day, washing away our city stress with mulled wine and one another. The environment is pretty grand, but we're not. Just a circle of friends who like to laugh and argue, with families too far away to visit in the short break that Broadway's holiday performance schedule allows...So we were desolate when Tom and Matt informed us that there would be no Christmas at Otium in 2012, as they were off to Venice to save yet another part of the sinking city. I know saving Venice is important, but more important than Christmas in the Berkshires? Seriously? Consternation became disappointment, which became resignation. And then the email arrived from Tom.

"'Dear ones -- Since Christmas has been cancelled, let's do Thanksgiving instead. Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend, to be precise. You must come. Must, as in you're coming. 'No' is not an option. Fun and games and the whole gang. November 24th. Be there.'"

Broadway producer Thomas Schumacher is currently president of Disney Theatrical Group. His Broadway, West End, touring and international producing credits include Beauty and the Beast, King David, The Lion King, Der Glockner von Notre Dame, Aida, On the Record, High School Musical, Tarzan, Mary Poppins and The Little Mermaid. Matthew White has appeared on the West End in Merrily We Roll Along, Passion and Ragtime. His UK directing credits include Little Shop of Horrors, The Last Five Years, Sweet Charity and Top Hat.

Tony Award winner Rick Elice's theatre writing credits include Broadway's Peter and the Starcatcher, The Addams Family and Jersey Boys. He also worked as a choreographer on The Laundry Hour off-Broadway.

Va. Tech edges Rutgers in OT in Russell Bowl

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) ? Cody Journell kicked a 22-yard field goal on the first possession of overtime to help Virginia Tech beat Rutgers 13-10 in the Russell Athletic Bowl on Friday night.

Virginia Tech (7-6) won its third straight game to avoid its first losing season since 1992.

Rutgers (9-4) had a chance to tie it in overtime, but Nick Borgese missed a 42-yard field-goal attempt to the right.

Virginia Tech trailed 10-0 at the half, then rallied in the final 30 minutes thanks to some timely turnovers and offense. Quarterback Logan Thomas struggled in the first and finished with a pair of interceptions, but also had 192 passing yards and the game's only passing touchdown.

The win also was the Hokies' 12th straight victory over their former Big East Conference rival.

Virginia Tech cornerback Antone Exum, selected the most valuable player of the game, picked off Gary Nova's pass early in the fourth quarter to set up the tying score.

Rutgers seemed to be in command until the opening minutes of the fourth quarter, when turnovers and a sudden surge from the Hokies' offense quickly turned the momentum.

Down 10-0, Virginia Tech took over after Rutgers missed field goal and moved into Scarlet Knights' territory for the first time in the game on a 32-yard pass from Thomas to Dyrell Roberts.

Thomas then found Corey Fuller for a 25-yard strike on the next play, before the drive stalled on the 8. It forced the Hokies to settle for Journell's 25-yard field goal.

Exum intercepted Nova's pass on the ensuing drive, giving the Hokies a first down on the Rutgers 21.

The Hokies found the end zone three plays later on a 21-yard touchdown pass from Thomas to Fuller with 10:56 left as steady rain began to fall.

Virginia Tech defensive end Tyrel Wilson then came up with the defense's second turnover of the night, recovering a fumble inside the Scarlet Knights 40 after Nova dropped a snap while lined up in the shotgun.

An intentional grounding penalty on Thomas forced a punt, though, with less than 7 minutes to play.

They got another chance a few series later, only to see Journell's 51-yard field goal come up short with 2:20 showing on the clock.

Rutgers punted, but got it back just a play later when Thomas' pass was intercepted by Brandon Jones.

The Scarlet Knights came into game ranked 14th in the nation in total defense, surrendering 321.25 yards per game.

It was defense on both sides that controlled the action in the first half as Rutgers took a 10-0 halftime lead.

The Scarlet Knights were the most effective offensively, managing a modest seven first downs and a field goal. But the Scarlet Knights came up empty on their best drive of the half, failing to convert on a fourth down pass play inside the Hokies 35.

Virginia Tech struggled throughout, though, tallying only 73 total yards in the first two quarters. Thomas was also sacked twice and intercepted late in the half, which severely hampered an offense that never made it into Rutgers' territory.

Penalties also bent in Rutgers' favor. Virginia Tech was penalized eight times for 60 yards. The Scarlet Knights weren't whistled for any penalties in the half.

A miscue by Virginia Tech on the opening drive of the game produced the game's first score.

Hokies center Caleb Farris sent his second snap of the night sailing past Thomas and into the end zone.

Thomas scrambled back to pick it up, and tried to run it out, but he was instantly swarmed and lost the ball as he was tackled. It was eventually recovered by Rutgers linebacker Khaseem Greene for the touchdown.

Notes: The game was the lowest scoring the bowl's history. It surpassed Stanford's 24-3 win over Penn State in 1993. ...The game also set a bowl record with 20 punts, passing the previous record of 19 in the 1991 matchup between Alabama and Colorado.

NEWSFLASH! Phaedra Parks is Pregnant With 2nd Child! Baby ...

Kandi Phaedra Rasheeda Toya
Remember that ?not so blind? item that I posted yesterday about a newly pregnant ?housewife??

[READ: Beach Body Motivation + Is There A Baby Bump On Board? (PHOTOS)]

Well if you guessed Phaedra Parks of The Real Housewives of Atlanta? you were quite observant!

Parks officially confirmed that she and Apollo Nida have baby number 2 in the oven, and shared a photo of her baby bump to prove it!

Photo below?

Phaedra Parks Baby Bump
Parks exclusively revealed the photo to People magazine, who released the news about an hour ago today:

Parks showed off her growing baby bump while on the beach in the Bahamas, where she?s vacationing with her family and friends.

The Atlanta entertainment lawyer married Nida, a certified personal trainer, in 2009 and the couple welcomed son Ayden a year later.

It all makes sense though right? Phaedra and Apollo recently released their ?Donkey Booty? workout series (click HERE for a sneak peek video) and there was not one photo of the pair showing off their physiques in the Bahamas.

You can consider this as my ?I told you so? post?

Now lil Ayden will have a brother or sister to play with! I?m sure it?s an exciting time for Phaedra and Apollo?. (and their timing is impeccable considering the next episode of RHOA will address rumors of strife in their marriage).

Judging from the size of her baby bump, she and Apollo will be bringing home their new arrival around April or May of 2013.

Travelers socked with new fees ? Business Management Daily ...

Airlines started it. Now travelers are being hit with all kinds of new fees in the air, and more fees after they land.

Allegiant Air and Spirit Airlines charge for carry-ons and checked bags. Spirit hits you for $5 if you ask an agent to print your boarding pass. Virgin America started charging $20 if you call to upgrade, pick a seat or have your itinerary re-sent.

On the ground, guests at a Westin near Los Angeles found their low promotional rate jacked up by a $25-per-night parking fee. Hotels have added fees for early departures, in-room safes, mini-bar restocking, even luggage storage. Bottom line: Have your staff ask about extra fees before they book.

Ambushed NY firemen shot dead; 2 police killed elsewhere

NEW YORK (Reuters) - A gunman who spent 17 years in prison for murder ambushed and killed two volunteer firefighters and wounded two others on Monday near Rochester, New York, as they responded to a house fire he deliberately set, police said.

William Spangler, 62, shot and killed himself after a gunfight with a police officer in Webster, a Rochester suburb, Webster Police Chief Gerald Pickering said.

"It was a trap set by Mr. Spangler, who laid in wait and shot first responders," Pickering told a news conference.

Separately, a police officer in Wisconsin and another in Texas were shot and killed on Monday, according to police and media reports.

The attacks on first responders came 10 days after one of the worst mass shootings in U.S. history that left 20 students and six adults dead at an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut and intensified the debate about gun control in the United States.

Spangler was convicted of manslaughter in 1981 for beating his 92-year-old grandmother to death with a hammer, according to New York State Department of Corrections records, and after prison he spent eight years on parole.

"We don't have an easy reason" for the attack on the firefighters, Pickering said, "but just looking at the history ... obviously this was an individual with a lot of problems."

Spangler opened fire around 5:45 a.m. after two of the firefighters arrived at the house in a fire truck and two others responded in their own cars, Pickering said.

Pickering appeared to wipe tears from his eyes at a news conference earlier on Monday when he identified the dead firefighters as Lieutenant Michael Chiapperini and Tomasz Kaczowka. Chiapperini was also a police lieutenant.

The injured firefighters, one of whom was in critical condition, were identified as Joseph Hofsetter and Theodore Scardino. Off-duty Police Officer John Ritter was hit by gunfire as he drove past the scene.

Pickering said police had found several types of weapons, including a rifle used to shoot the firefighters. As a convicted felon it was illegal for Spangler to own guns.

Police had not had any contact with Spangler in the "recent past," Pickering said.

Four houses were destroyed by the fire and four were damaged, Pickering said.

COPS TARGETED

Police Officer Jennifer Sebena, 30, was found dead on Monday in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin, suburb of Wauwatosa, police said.

Sebena was on patrol between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m. and wearing body armor when she was shot several times, police said. She was found by another officer after she did not respond to calls from the police dispatcher.

In Houston, Texas, an officer with the Bellaire Police Department died after a shootout at around 9 a.m. and a bystander was also killed, according to local media reports.

A spokesperson for the Houston Police Department was not immediately available for comment. A police officer answering the telephone confirmed media reports but declined further comment. A suspect was in the hospital, according to reports.

Before Monday's killings, the Washington-based National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund reported that 125 federal, state and local officers had died in the line of duty this year.

Forty-seven deaths were firearms-related, 50 were from traffic-related incidents, and 28 were from other causes, it said.

No problemo!

We love wine. Underline, Bold, Italicize, Caps ? LOVE.?Now you definitely know how much we love wine.

But this time of year, we like our wine a bit spiced. And warm. Don?t you? That is why it was a no-brainer for me when I was given this assignment.

Militia Vs Hatchet, Christmas City Showdown!

The monster was directed toward the rest of the group. Its red skull was as the needle-tip of a compass, which claimed the next objective. The armored woman had been knocked away. The creature stood still, for just a moment. Its stature was above all present beings in the current vicinity. Though, the falling snow ceased not. Upon the first minutes descension, the black skin of the mosnter retained miniscule patches of white on its shoulders.

This less than serene environment was met with more chaos, as the creature leapt toward the collapsed spine of the fallen skyscraper. His body was a black blur, from one spot to the other. He landed on the side of the building, which was now its top. He was on higher ground. The impact caused for the steel to warp. Wasting no time, the creature began to sprint to the edge of the building. Loud cracks and thumps echoed, as his feet hit the glass and steel with every step.

Suddenly, it dove down toward the oppressors. Such a graceful dive, as he flipped and curled into a ball. A five hundred pound mass was falling seven stories from the air, headed straight for the APC, and gaining speed. Whatever body it hit would surely be crushed.

Championing the Cause of Fatherhood ? The Myriad Thoughts

The other day, someone asked me what I wanted to do after graduation. I said that I was unsure. I would love to pursue academia, but I?m afraid that the stress of studying would affect my health even more, as it has done to me this year. So I figured the best thing to do would be to take a gap year to work before deciding whether to continue pursuing a Masters or a PhD.

The person suggested that it might be worthwhile championing a cause during that gap year. He shared about a young lady who, after her graduation, flew off to a developing country, and volunteered to do journalism in the English language for them for a low fee. Apparently, she made a huge difference to that place, and of course, gained a lot of experience useful to her Masters (either in journalism or mass communications, I don?t remember).

That got me thinking? What cause should I champion/promote/work for?

Yesterday, I had an inspiration!

Perhaps I really should champion the cause of good fathering! Now, this seems rather odd because I?m still not married and I don?t even have any kids of my own. But I think it?s very very important to champion this. I think all too often, fathers/husbands aren?t very much present in the lives of their children. Sure, they may love their children, but more often than not, they?re so busy with work that their children rarely receive much fatherly care. Moreover, I don?t think work is a valid excuse to not spend time with the family. So what if you?re working so hard to provide for the family? The numerous marriage counselling cases and divorce cases indicate that making money is never sufficient in holding a family together. In fact, the excessive time spent on work translates to more mistrust and less communication among spouses as one neglecs the other for the sake of work.

What worries me the most ? and why I think championing good fatherhood is essential today ? is the fact that so many people I know in my social circle are either broken, or come from broken families, and their fathers are largely to blame for the hurt/breakdown. Their dads either suddenly disappear from their lives, have an affair with someone else, incur the burden of huge debts, or are just so absent in the lives of their children that they resent their fathers for it. This problem is soooo bad, I?ve heard stories from friends about the failings of their dads, that I?m no longer surprised whenever people share with me their personal stories.

I shouldn?t generalise, but it tends to be the case that fathers are failing to keep to their roles of being a good husband and a father, and they tend to be the ones who break up a family and hurt their children the most.

It?s a huge problem. And I think so many people are so affected by such broken families that these days, I often hear people say, ?I don?t believe in marriage,? or ?I don?t want to raise children because I don?t want them to be broken (as I am ? I don?t see how I can raise children without them being broken by my own brokenness).?

What annoys me the most is that there is a group of conservative people who insist that women should stay at home, not pursue a career, and look after the kids. What about the fathers? Why aren?t they sharing the responsibilities of raising the kids? Why should it be a woman?s thing? It?s so easy for them to blame the rest of society for all its moral failings, when these irresponsible men are also a contributing factor, having washed their hands off the responsibilities of being a father, leaving the mothers to do everything. So what if you?re the bread-winner? You are absent from the child?s life!

Anyway? A few weeks ago, I attended the funeral of the father of my friends (they?re sisters). The poor guy died in a cycling accident. He wasn?t wearing a helmet, and he fell off his bike, and landed on his head. Ouch. Anyway, my friends shared a beautiful eulogy of their dad. Sure, eulogies are where you have to say nice things about someone, but I think, whatever good things are said are usually the ones that are significant and have an impact. What was inspiring was their sharing of how wonderful and loving their dad has been. He was a man who loved his daughters and always bought lots of delicious foods for them to eat. He always ensured that they were home safe and sound, and he would stay up all night just to wait for them to arrive home. In fact, he?ll even drive his car to fetch them home no matter how late at night, just to keep them safe from potential dangers. He was strict, yet, he sounds like a very friendly and fun guy.

I thought to myself ? I?d love to be that kind of a dad. If anything, the sharings pointed out that this was a man who put his family first ? giving it more importance than his career and everything else. And he did pretty well in life anyway. We tend to hold this misconception that unless we put our careers before everything else, we will not go far in life. Here was a man who busted this myth ? you can go far and have a wonderful and loving family even if you do not put your career first.

And I like what they shared, because it sounds like being a father is indeed something doable. People imagine that being good parents involves making so much money so that they can put their kids in all kinds of classes, and shower them with all kinds of stuff. Here was a man who was just always there for them, listening to them, being a friend and a father to them. It?s probably harder than it sounds, but I think it?s more effective than always giving stuff and making money, but not being there for your kids.

I?d like to be a dad, and in fact, I can?t wait for that day. I love children! Anyway, let?s see how I can go about in championing the cause of good and responsible fatherhood. I think our society is in dire need for more good and exemplary fathers.

Helpful Hints For Anyone Needing Auto Insurance Coverage | Jim ...

Mistakes Are Costing You! Learn To Stop?Making ALL 189 Of Them!

Struggling With WordPress? 100+ Step-By-Step Videos Now Available!

Auto insurance policies cover more than your car. In addition to providing you with protection, it also provides protection for other drivers. When choosing a policy, make sure you pick one that covers all of your needs. The advice in this article is designed to show you how to get the most coverage from your auto insurance policy for the least amount of money.

When you cancel your current insurance policy to switch to another company, you should do it in writing, and keep a copy of it. If you cancel your coverage and get a subsequent bill, do not ignore it. Call to investigate the matter. This can negatively impact your credit score and affect your ability to qualify for loans or credit in the future.

Many auto insurance outfits are happy to extend discounts to households that use the same insurance company for every member of the family. You could save hundreds, even thousands of dollars per year in monthly premiums by insuring all of your vehicles together.

TIP! Those who do not drive a lot, or who drive short distances, can sometimes get low mileage discounts on their policy. Generally, you have to drive under 7,500 miles a year to qualify for this discount.

You must notify the police if there is a car accident. Police officers are well aware of the procedures that have to be followed, and they will make sure that all necessary information is collected. When you are handling your insurance company, it is good to have law enforcement in your camp. You should call the police immediately.

To reduce your insurance premium, choose a higher deductible. By doing this you will see a huge impact on your current rate. Be aware that should you be involved in an accident, you will need to have the cash available to fulfill the deductible. You should have an emergency fund just in case you need it.

Make a detailed checklist of the discounts that the insurance company offers, then tick off all the ones that you qualify for. You may also save a lot by claiming discounts.

TIP! It is extremely important to understand the exact coverage provided by your insurance policy. Most car insurance policies include bodily harm to yourself, as well as medical expenses.

Even just a lapse of auto insurance for one day can end up costing you higher premiums. If you continuously switch insurance providers, it will make gaps in coverage. If your insurance company notices that there have been periods when you weren?t covered, you could be in for a costly rate increase.

Most states require all drivers to have liability insurance. You have to know whether your state requires insurance, and what kind of insurance it requires. You also have the responsibility to adhere to your state laws. Being involved in an accident is bad enough, but if your insurance doesn?t meet state requirements, you have extra legal trouble on top of any damage you have to deal with.

Rental Car

TIP! Save money by raising your deductibles. You should then put some money aside to pay your deductibles in case you get in an accident.

Always ensure that your insurance includes rental car coverage. You will have to buy supplementary insurance if your policy won?t pay for the cost of a rental car when your personal vehicle is undergoing repairs. The add-on to the policy can cost much more money in the long run. You can pay up to twenty dollars a day when your car is in the shop.

Learn your state law and regulations in regards to auto insurance. Every state has different laws and requirements when it comes to insurance, so you need to make sure you fully understand exactly what you need when you go to purchase an auto policy.

Maintain low car insurance payments by driving defensively and with caution. Many companies offer discounts for good drivers who don?t get tickets or have accidents. Discounts like these start out great, and often have a scale system that raises the discount every successive accident-free year. This will also prevent your premiums from becoming more expensive.

TIP! When you pick a high deductible, you will pay less in a premium. Even though in an incident where you have minimum damage from an accident, you will be responsible for the higher out of pocket expenses.

Be sure to do thorough research when your insurance company tries to get you to purchase a warranty to cover parts that will be used to fix your car. The majority of auto manufacturers and repair shops provide a warranty on their work. You do not want to waste money on something that is worthless.

Car Insurance

Car insurance companies carry reputations, and you are best served by investigating where they stand in the public eye. The lowest rate doesn?t necessarily mean the best deal. When you buy cheap car insurance, you very often get to experience first hand the old adage of ?getting the service you pay for.? You often later find that the low cost is at the expense of good service.

TIP! You may think a higher premium is inevitable if you buy a sports car, but this is not necessarily the case. Not all sports cars carry extreme premiums.

When you are trying to decide on coverage, think about what type of vehicle you have. An older vehicle doesn?t need quite the same coverage as a newer vehicle. Some cars have higher theft rates and that is also a factor in your coverage. It does not matter if it?s an older car, you should consider fuller coverage if your car model is commonly stolen.

Look again at your current auto insurance policy with the above advice in mind. You might find places you need to add coverage, and most likely some where you will be able to save some money.

End of the world on 12/21/12? Not just yet, says the Vatican's top astronomer. (+video)

The director of the Vatican Observatory dismissed talk of a Mayan doomsday on Dec. 21, 2012, saying that the end of the Earth, if it happens, is billions of years away.

By Nick Squires,?Correspondent / December 20, 2012

A Mayan dancer performs at the Xcaret Eco Theme Park on the outskirts of Playa del Carmen, Mexico, on Wednesday. Although some say the Mayan calendar predicts the end of the world on Dec. 21, 2012, the Vatican's top astronomer is rather dubious.

But while the idea that Earth could be shattered into a billion pieces by some sort of interplanetary cataclysm has worried millions of people around the world, the Holy See's chief astronomer suggests that life as we know it is unlikely to come to an end quite so soon.

In an editorial in the Vatican's official daily newspaper, L'Osservatore Romano ? in an issue whose front-page article was entitled??The end is not nigh ? at least for now? ? Rev. Jose Gabriel Funes, the?director of the Vatican Observatory, criticized "pseudo-prophecies" about the end of the Universe.??

?In the media and on the internet there is a great deal of talk of the end of the world, which the Mayan calendar supposedly?predicted for Dec 21. If you do a search on Google, you get 40 million results on the topic,? wrote Father Funes, a Jesuit priest from Argentina.

A 5,125-year cycle known in the Mayan calendar as the Long Count comes to an end on Friday and has been widely interpreted by cultists, New Age disciples, and believers in the esoteric as heralding the destruction of the planet.

But in a lengthy discourse on astronomy and Christian belief, he said it was ?not even worth discussing the scientific basis of these claims."

He acknowledged that the universe was slowly expanding, but that the destruction of the Earth ? if it ever happens ? will not occur for billions of years.

In any case, he said, Christians subscribe to the ?fundamental conviction that death is not the last word.?

Four hundred years after the Roman Catholic Church put Galileo on trial for heresy based on his belief that the Earth revolved around the Sun and not the other way round, the Vatican is rather more forgiving of the science of astronomy.

Its observatory is at Castel Gandolfo, the summer residence of the pope, which lies in the hills outside Rome. One of the oldest astronomical research institutes in the world, it also has a research facility hosted by the Steward Observatory at the University of Arizona in Tucson.

Funes, who has a master?s degree in astronomy from the National University of Cordoba in Argentina as well as degrees in philosophy and theology, was made director of the observatory in 2006.

He has not been reluctant to take modern science into account when considering religious tenets. In an interview in 2008, he said it was possible that intelligent forms of life could exist on other planets in the solar system.
